Advantages of E-Commerce For Your Business

What are the advantages of e-Commerce? What do I have to benefit from being online?

Imagine owning a shop which could reach a global audience, operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and not suffer the problems of staffing regular high street shops do? Or even renting the top locations to attract the most sales?

e-Commerce brings the world to you and with it, the world’s wallets. For niche players in particular, you can find a whole audience of people actively seeking you out. Remember each search at Google means someone is trying to achieve something – such as buying a product, finding out a piece of information or simply finding something to do.

Automation cuts out the need for human processes. Payments can land in your bank account and orders be transmitted to your fulfillment centre without any human interference. You don’t need staff to handle extra custom (simply fulfill them). This means you can potentially grow faster and turnover more revenue each year than if you were just selling offline.

Automation also brings scalability. The brilliant ‘online’ example of this shows how search engines have mushroomed whilst human-edited directories are no longer the ‘weapon of choice’ when users are looking for information. Google sees many hundreds more searches per second than DMoz and Yahoo Directory (the two major online directories) combined.

There are some drawbacks of trading online however which you should be away of before considering entering the worldwide web. As great as the traffic possibilities can be, if you have too much traffic and too many sales, you could suffer from over-trading and simply not be able to fulfill orders, keep up with customer service or indeed maintain quality control.
